If not, how could someone who votes absentee possibly vote on a change? What is the procedure for getting a change placed on the ballot? Is there a way to give a PO who will attend another PO's proxy?

Comment on scooters, golf carts & 4-wheelers at alpine

This is correct. As a matter of fact, at each annual meeting, there are issues that are voted on by those present. This year, we will vote on the proposed annual budget which is a standard process. And there will be at least one other issue regarding a change to our governing documents also coming for a vote. Please read about this issue in the May Newsletter. There may be another one also to be voted on. In other words, the governing documents are changed by a majority vote of those present or who vote by absentee ballot. All the more reason for those who are not able to attend the June 28th meeting to request a ballot from Sue Eichorn at 304-789-2481.

Comment on DIANA-logue ~~ stereotypes... do we deserve this?

For the third week in a row, the ad has run with the same spelling mistake. Let's be clear on this~ that ad is seen by thousands of people.... it is in newspapers in Cumberland, Keyser, Romney, Frostburg and many other parts of MD and WV. It'll be interesting to see if any changes are made for next week's ad.

Comment on a week around the compound ~~ 5/4-5/10

For those not at the work effort put in by 84 Alpinites on Sat, you missed a great event. Mother Nature did her part to cry on those working outside, but that did not stop those from digging rocks on the golf course, planting flowers, playing pick up sticks, working on the playground and much more outside. I was not inside so can't list all that got done, but I am told that everyone has to check out the paint job on the lower level of the lodge. Next time maybe the Alpine volunteer spirit will get some more people out for a day in the mud and paint while meeting new people.

Comment on new page for ... retired Federal Employees

On May 20, NARFE will testify in support of legislation, H.R. 3579, to facilitate the temporary reemployment of federal annuitants. Annuitant reemployment occurs now typically with the individual’s new pay being offset by the dollar amount of the previously-earned annuity, and in rare cases a restrictive OPM-led waiver process can allow a specific agency to pay these annuitants without the dollar for dollar loss. This legislation would allow annuitants to earn full pay and their annuities. The hearing will be held by the Federal Workforce Subcommittee (http://federalworkforce.oversight.house.gov/), chaired by Rep. Danny Davis, D-IL. Proponents, NARFE and the Office of Personnel Management (www.opm.gov) and opponents, National Treasury Employee Union (www.nteu.org), will testify and answer questions from Members of the subcommittee. H.R. 3579 is sponsored by Rep. Tom Davis, R-VA. A Senate companion bill, S. 2003, is sponsored by Sen. Susan Collins, R-ME. You all know how I feel about our advertising & marketing.

There are many publications AL is listed in. Some are paid for and some are free. But it is imperative that these publications are updated yearly. Even free publications don't help if the info is wrong.

I know there was some confusion with our golf rates listed on various websites. The rates were from years ago and never updated. Customers printed that info and expected to pay the cheaper rates. I know those were all updated in the past year.

I would suggest you forward the information to the board so they can pass it along to the employees that should keep the publications accurate. The board's email addresses are available on the sidebar.

Comment on scooters, golf carts & 4-wheelers at alpine

Just spotted your kind comments. Actually, I'm fine with the decision as it was made for the protection of all concerned... those who would be using the cart [my family] and those who would be financially responsible if some accident occurred [all of us]. My son LOVES Alpine and so do we. We just get PO'd when people are selfish and blatently disregard our commonly held agreements. We have a golf cart and if the restrictions are amended, we'll pay the fee and bring it to Alpine for a week at least every summer. If not, we'll make do. So should everyone.
