How to get to top of the old ski slope? Turn right at Guards House and go up Alpine Drive turn left on Anemone and go to almost the end of the street and turn on gravel/grass road to the left. BTW.. Its ok to go there at night and view the stars. Security chased my daughter away Saturday Night and looked inside her car with Flash Light. I was appalled and called Fuzzy and he assured me that its ok to view the stars at dark. She was there about 8pm and was sitting on picnic bench. Shame that city girl comes to visit her Mom and gets treated with a guard saying no funny business. She was doing nothing wrong. Although I appreciate Security checking and patrolling don't get me wrong. After all our assessment money is paying for it. -- Reply to this

Hello Judith, Maybe I don't understand. I am a homeowner here. And I feel my guest and my daughter can go to top of the ski slope to view stars at night. There is nothing wrong and it doesn't cost anything to view the stars. Especially when my guest are eating at the lodge and helping to bring money into Alpine. Reply to this

OK, everybody, cool your jets (or peace pipes!) Reread what I said....it is for Alpine Lake property owners and their families and guests. So, in the case of Chief Woman Squaw's daughter, she had every right to be there. So, if you are a property owner, then please enjoy; take your guests there; smoke peace pipe while watching the sunset; have a picnic. That's exactly what it is for. Please let me know if you do have other questions. Reply to this

Alpine Lake Nights.
There are some nights when i cannot not sleep.
There are some nights when my mind refuses to go to the unconscious deep.
What do I do with the time I wonder?
To waste this serenity would be a blunder
Ive got the night watch dont you know.
Tonight for a while I get to watch the moon and stars as westward they go.
Ill hear loudly the silence of the night.
It will be that way until first light.
Ill visit with Orion, the Big Dipper and Mars
Ill try to catch and thank God for seeing the rare falling star.
The night sky is the biggest thing I know.
Yet with all its movements so quietly it goes.
With my window raised , ill listen for night sounds.
Off in the distance I hear the farmers hound.
Yet outside my window as close as anything can be,
There is the sounds of acorns hitting the limbs as they fall from the trees.
Ill hear the wipperwill far off in some hidden tree
Ill listen to the wind as it gently moves the leaves.
Ill hear, I think the deer in the woods scurry.
Tracing its progress by the crunch of the limbs, wondering why it is in such a hurry.
Ill hear the walnut fall from above.
Ill hear two distant whipperwills and assume they are in love.
And then there are sounds I cannot identify.
Cracks and screeches that make me want to escape under my covers and hide.
In the spring night the frogs chorus is loud.
In late summer, the katydids and crickets make up the forest crowd.
In fall, its the owl who makes me stay up late.
But in winter, its the silence with whom I have a date.
In the night watch I can pray.
It is easier without the distractions of the day.
I can focus my attention on heavens eternal light.
While I lay in thick darkness of earths night.
I often discover that the night doesnt last long.
The prayer I so wanted to pray wasnt all that strong.
I see through eyelids, the sun now does shine.
It was hours ago that the night drifted away and I fell asleep and now its daytime.

TERRA ALTA, NO WORDSWORTH HERE

Through quaking pines,
low white sun
paints the child who wears your face.
The April winds,
the tears of May…
Spring.
At our summer place…
Wandering lonely in the fog
that drowns our lake, I go.
Flurries throttle daffodils,
I’m gray
against the snow.
