saying goodbye ~~ so long, charming little one-lane bridge

------------------------------------------
The work continues on the bridge to alpine.
Below are two pics that show the progress.

You know, I got to wondering why the state would pay to change that bridge. There was always something charming about driving over a one lane bridge to get home. Kinda made you remember why you left the big city for the country. And let's not forget... this is the country.

I can't remember a single time I had to sit there and wait for all the vehicles to come through causing me such an inconvenience. Shoot, I even had a chance to wave to folks when they let me through in front of them. Wait a minute... there was the time there was a traffic jam on alpine lake road. But that was because a few cows got out of the farm down the road.

Anyway, it's a shame to see the old bridge go away. Maybe I'll forget all about it when I can zoom right across the creek and get to my doorstep 10 seconds faster. Now... I have to figure out what I'm going to do with those extra 10 seconds. And the state department? Guess they figured it would be better to replace a bridge than put that money into the schools or something really important.

Here's to you old bridge ~~ it was fun knowing you!

AHHHHHH sentament. Really, the old bridge had spots that one could almost see the water underneath. It needed repair and I should think that state standards require a two lane bridge now days. Remember, AL housing has increased along with heavy equipment traffic to build our homes.
With that 10 seconds, I may make my tee time on time so the Pro Shop won't get mad at me (joke).

Great point of view Diana. Here's another one--- that one lane bridge slowed folks down. Now people will just fly by Jim's house. And you all know how much we hate people speeding by our house!!!

Diana I agree the one lane added to the country feeling, also kept the speeders at bay. k

I was talking to the folks working on the bridge... seems like it may take longer to finish than expected.

Did anyone think they would finish a new bridge on time? This reminds me...the other day I was taking a shovel back to Ace Hardware which I broke digging in the rocky ground of Alpine. The girl at the checkout asked me if I worked for the State. I said no...why do you ask? She said, "I thought you might have been leaning on your shovel"...pretty funny...she laughed and said she was just kidding. I always thought the published completion date of 2-3 weeks was a bit of a stretch!

This was posted on another story about shortcuts. If you're headed to Deep Creek, you can get there this way...

*Take Cranesville RD past the Rigger farm

*Make the sharp U-turn on Cranesville

*Make right on Sang Run RD to the 'Y'

*Make right on Marsh Hill RD to Wisp

If anyone else knows different, PLEEZ let us know!!

Hey folks.... just heard the bridge won't be ready for another week. If you are headed this way today, be prepared to take the detour.
