lights around the lodge ~~ are they necessary?
-------------------------------------------
This topic was sent to me by Brad B. for discussion. The question of whether the outdoor lights around the lodge and pro shop are necessary.
Here goes...
I was out on the deck Saturday night and noticed all the street light pollution blocking out the night sky. The night sky is one of the features that draws me to the mountains.
How much money could we save if we turned off the street lights with the electricity and yearly maintenance? How important are the street lights to the property owners? We already have a gated community with a security on patrol.
Also, here's a website to check out...

Hello AL,
My topic in regards to the street light pollution was referring more to the lights along the roads that are spaced out every couple blocks.. I personally don’t believe the street lights are a cost effective safety and security necessity in the community?

Last year while in Big Bend National Park we noticed the street lights had shields forcing the light down. We asked why this was and they said to keep the light from rising and blocking the star views. Not a bad idea.

That's interesting. Guess it shows there's always a way to accomplish what you want... lights for safety but not affect the night skies.
There's not much prettier than a clear night sky in the mountains!
