      Husker,

I have fished the Yock (20 minutes away) and the Savage River (45 minutes away) for trout. Both are wonderful places to go wet a line. Both have their issues...the Yock has unpredicable water releases in addition to the scheduled ones...Plan on getting wet if you fish the Savage - it is a magnificent fishery but the rocks and bolders there have been accurately described as "greased bowling balls" due to the algae in the streambed. Additionally, there is an Orvis Store right on the Savage River a couple of miles upstream from Bloomington...a great place to pick up a few flies and to get an up-to-date fishing report. And there are the other two of the Big Four streams in Maryland - the Casselman and the North Branch of the Potomac...both also renown fisheries! As always, check the water levels before you go. Too much water flow can make these rivers unsafe to wade. Enjoy!

Hey Brad. I'm not much for fishing but here's a forum for Deep Creek anglers. You might find a good spot on there...

    Attention Fisherman- Good News
The lake will be stocked with trout on April 9, 2008. This will be the first trout stocking in many years. The fish will average 1-2 pounds. THE LAKE WILL BE CLOSED TO FISHING FROM April 9 UNTIL April 19, 2008(to allow the fish to disperse and adapt).
There will be fish survey forms, along with copies of rules & regulations, available at the boat house. All fishermen are asked to please fill one out EACH time you fish, and return it to the box provided. The information is vital to us in our efforts to establish a data base, determine the condition of our fishery, it's needs, and to provide the optimal fishing opportunity.
Finally, enjoy launching your boat at our new boat dock. No need to get your feet wet anymore. Questions can be directed to Dennis Schiffbauer, lake committee member at 304-789-6017.

That's great news, I'll be sure to fill out the form when I'm out there.

A few weeks ago I saw a dead catfish in the cove just north of the boat area. He was big, about two feet long. Did not know that there were catfish in the lake.

One of the greatest pieces of news yet. We are also looking forward to bass stocking. Great job, Dennis and Lake committee members!
