old-time Terra Alta pictures

Check out these pictures from a time long ago. They are from Independence Day, 1935, in Terra Alta. Many thanks go to Chip for providing them.
A great way to feel a connection to the past as we go into the future.

Actually, I have to give our son Erich credit for finding these pictures. He's helping design an album/CD cover. He discovered these photos yesterday through the Library of Congress. They're of Terra Alta during the great depression, shot by Walker Evans, one of the most celebrated photographers of all time. He was commissioned by the FSA (Farm Securities Admin) to take photos of American poverty arising from the Great Depression and subsequently the dust bowl.
