Some years ago, someone came up with a theory of “six degrees of separation”. According to this theory, everyone on earth is only six people away from knowing everyone else. So Johnny knows Sue, who knows Mary, who knows John, who knows Frank, who knows…..
This theory comes to mind from time to time as I look at the statistics regarding traffic to this blog.
Like all good egotists, I check my statistics daily. I know the number of people who read this blog. The decided lack of comments aside, I have a fairly healthy number of readers.
I don’t have as many readers as Drudge (he gets several million hits a day), but I do know that I have enough readers to get my message out.
In this world of high speed internet and instant news, we are rapidly approaching a point where the six degrees of separation is pushing toward a single degree of separation.
For example: while my blog is just a single drop of water in the flood we call the internet, I know that some of my regular readers may have contact with some very important people. These people may be in the media, government and private industry. I know that in a very real way, blogging is better than writing a letter to my congressman.
Lacking an inferiority complex, I don’t mind working in the shadows. If your only concern is the message; if you don’t care about getting recognition for your ideas, it’s much easier to get your ideas enacted if you work behind the scene.
And so, dear friends, I thank you once again for your readership. I ask that you continue to frequent this blog. I ask that you take to heart the things that I am saying. Feel free to read without commenting (that doesn’t bother me). Feel free to pass my message on as your own (that doesn’t bother me either).
The message is more important than the person who speaks it.
DIANA-logue -- and the message is...
One Degree of Separation

What a great message to begin 2008, the inter-connectedness of us all. Thanks, Diana, and best wishes as your blog begins its first full calendar year.
