the first DIANA-logue, my opinion on something juicy!

DIANA-logue~~ an occasional rant from the corner of Bluebird & Goldfinch

December 16, 2007
I started this blog 3 weeks ago with the idea of property owners being able to communicate with other property owners on issues in the community.  I list the info, I moderate the discussions, and I pay for the blog. But I am not a control freak!

ALPOA, ALPUC and management were informed of the new blog and have been given a chance to provide information. Only ALPUC has taken advantage of this offer. A community newsletter is fine, but finding out in December what the Board voted on in November just seems so 70's. Again, this a way to get info out fast... and a way to have an open discussion on a variety of topics. You don't need to change your mind, but if you view other's opinions it may give you a different perspective. Different forms of communication are vital for a healthy community.

The response from property owners has been overwhelming. Here's just a caption of the numbers... in three weeks there has been about 10,000 hits from 315 different users. I've said this time and time again... WE ALL LOVE ALPINE AND JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. I have received many compliments by email, phone & in person.

Now the down side... there are some people that are uncomfortable, upset, or afraid of the blog. I'd bet they're afraid! But afraid of what... property owners getting info?
You don't have to check it out but let me say this... PLEASE DON'T COMPLAIN TO MY FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS. If you don't understand the blog, or don't like it, please let me know and we can talk about it. My name is all over the blog, so you know who I am.

For those who have posted comments, thank you. For those just lurking, that's fine too. But remember, the more comments and opinions we have, the better the discussions become. Some have used their names, others anonymous, and still others have created names. All that is fine with me as long as we keep the discussions moving forward.

Thanks for reading my first DIANA-logue

Information is good. More timely information is better. Secrecy is suspicious.

    Hi Diana and everyone!!
I wanted to tell you what a great idea the blog is...totally necessary in the information age...perhaps a website will be the next step....as Alpine Lake grows, people can connect and form groups, sell stuff, and link with good info. I am in my 30's, and my wife and children have a few lots and are dreaming of building a house there one fine day..Our friends bought a few lots, too.. We talk about starting a 5K/half marathon/ full marathon at Alpine Lake in the future..anyhow, good to have a current events link...We live outside of Baltimore, and are coming for New Years...tell everyone in Laker's to get ready for some REAL competition on that shuffleboard!!! Regards, Matt

Hey Matt, welcome aboard. I'm glad you are enjoying the blog. It is a great way for property owners to keep in touch.

Years ago, there was an event that brought people to Alpine over Mother's Day weekend... The Mother of All Races. It was a bike race around through the community. Lots of hills and stuff, from what i heard was pretty successful. I think having something similar would be a great idea. I'd be happy to help support it... as long as I don't have to run in the 5K, let alone a marathon!

Again, great to hear from you and I hope you continue to enjoy the blog and post comments. If you, or anyone, would like to see different discussions started, please let me know.
